Tourbillon With Moon Phase And World Globe
The impressive Tri-Axial Tourbillon by Girard-Perregaux is enhanced by two fascinating complications with miniature painting – a rotating globe with day-night indication and aprecise moon phase display. The Tri-Axial Planetarium, limited to 15, is part of the Haute Horlogerie Edition and has the technical and aesthetic features of the Swiss manufactory. The complex mechanics are presented by an open, light design.
The Tri-Axial Planetarium combines a triple-axis tourbillon with a world globe that performs a complete revolution within 24 hours, and an astronomical moon phase. The combination is new and has characteristic features for Girard-Perregaux: pillar-shaped gold bridges, a tourbillon cage, a Lyra shape, a sapphire glass with domes, and a side opening to ensure that the mechanism is set in the right light,
The tri-axial tourbillon rotates, as the name implies, on three axles. The mechanism consists of 140 parts and is 1.24 grams light. Its inner cage, in the form of a Lyra – mark of the house since 1880, performs one revolution per minute. This inner cage is integrated in a further rotatable system that rotates on a second axis and requires 30 seconds for one revolution.Together, both constructions are integrated into a third mechanism, which rotates about a further axis within two minutes.
Two astronomical complications follow the rotations of the Tourbillon. The globe, with its 24-hour revolution, is a picture of the world around the world. On the underside of the 13-millimeter-sized aluminum disc is a twelve-dotted arrow, which stands for the noon hour, indicating the side of the globe Day is, while on its other half night reigns. The world is depicted on the disc, as it can also be seen on historical maps from the year 1791 – the founding year of the manufactory. The motif is applied by hand as a miniature painting. The similarly designed moon disk is based on representations of the earth satellite from the 17th century – from that time in which the telescope was invented. The painted moon takes up the blue tones of the rotating earth globe and shows itself as we see it. The precise mechanism requires correction only after 122 years, for which a corrector is used at two o’clock.
Above the 48-millimeter and three-bar pressure-resistant rose gold case is a three-piece sapphire crystal with two domes, under which the Tri-Axial Tourbillon and the world globe rotate. The transparent housing base as well as the lateral housing opening allow a comprehensive view of the complex mechanism and allow light to enter. Equipped with thehand-held caliper GP09310-0001, the model offers a gait of 70 hours. The movement drives the Tri-Axial Tourbillon as well as the planetarium and provides the display of hours, minutes, moon phase and day-night display. These indications are read from a silver-colored guilloched dial with a pattern that is inspired by the representation of the latitude and longitude. This motif is accentuated by rose gold numerals and hour markings; overhead Dauphin pointers. The movement is visible through a screwed sapphire crystal back. Its finish is hand-finished. The base is sand blasted and black PVD coated to show the night as a contrast to the silver-colored dial. The Tri-Axial Planetarium is worn on a black alligator leather strap with a rose gold folding clasp and costs 294,000 euros.
