Samsung has already sent out the invitations for your press conference at IFA, the technology fair that will take place in late August and early September in Germany.
Although no further, the invitation practically confirms there’s new smart watches of the brand, which has this month announced and launched a high-end smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
Now, it will be the turn of Gear S3. The invitation says only “Talk about 3” and under have “Gear.” The press conference will be broadcast live on the website of Samsung.
An interesting note of the invitation is that seems to indicate a circular display for the next version of Samsung’s smart watches, following the same trend of predecessor Gear S2. Some technology blogs indicate that the code name of this new version is “Solis”-Latin for “Sun.”
Rumors point to three different versions of the Gear S3 – Classic, Frontier and Explorer. Some will be unlocked, others connected to mobile operators, with autonomous connectivity compared to smartphones (something that the S2 have allowed). The Explorer seems to be focused on use for sport and adventure and Frontier may be the top of the line.
In terms of operating system, the smartwatches run Citizen, Samsung’s proprietary system, instead of Android.
On the other hand, there should be a Deluxe Edition, worked in partnership with the de Grisogono jewelers. It’s something that has been advanced by a South Korean newspaper, quoting executives of trademark says that Samsung plans to enter the market of luxury accessories. It is recalled that the Apple Watch has a 18-carat gold version which costs between EUR 11300 and 18500 and that Samsung offers a Gear S2 with diamonds for $15000 – are manufactured only 100 units per month.
There are still some expectation about a tablet Galaxy Tab S3, which may be launched in the same press conference, according to the website Phone Arena.
